Francis Bacon è protagonista con il lirico ritratto di Henrietta Moraes (sorella del poeta Dom Moraes), dipinto nel 1969 ed esposto alla Marlborough Fine Art di Londra dove nel 1970 lo acquistò Garech Browne. Ora è stimato £ 5,500,000 - £ 7,500,000.

Il Picasso e il Munch di Sotheby's invece andranno in asta entrambi il 3 novembre: Arte impressionista e moderna (Evening Sale) a New York. Il capolavoro cubista di Pablo Picasso, "Arlecchino" fu dipinto nel 1909. Non viene esposto da più di 40 anni e fa parte della collezione di Enrico Donati, un grande surrealista che si è spento quest'anno all'età di 99 anni. Ci si aspetta che superi i 30 milioni di dollari. Ecco i commenti di due esperti di Sotheby's: “Sotheby’s has a distinguished relationship with the 20th century’s greatest master,” said Simon Shaw Senior Vice President and Head of Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern Art Department in New York. “We have had the privilege of achieving the top two prices commanded by the artist at auction with the sales of Boy with a Pipe and Dora Maar au chat, both of which remain the top two auction prices for any work of art. The upcoming sale of Arlequin is part of that tradition of offering masterworks from nearly every period of Picasso’s career.” Emmanuel Di-Donna, Vice Chairman, Impressionist and Modern Art Worldwide and Head of Sotheby’s Evening Sales, New York, commented, “Emmanuel Di-Donna, Vice Chairman, Impressionist and Modern Art Worldwide and Head of Sotheby’s Evening Sales, New York, commented, “International collectors have not been presented with such a fantastic opportunity to compete for one of the great Picasso portraits since Sotheby’s sale of Dora Maar au chat. The last major portrayal of the harlequin, often considered the artist’s alter ego, was Au Lapin Agile which was sold at Sotheby’s in 1989 for $40.7 million; and the rarity of this 1909 work is further enhanced by being one of the greatest Cubist paintings to ever come to the market. Arlequin will surely whet any seasoned or new collector’s appetite given its impeccable provenance, condition and importance in the artist’s body of work.”
 
Il capolavoro di Munch fu dipinto nel 1894. Questo dipinto, "Vampire" è una spettacolare rappresentazione di amore, sesso e morte.  Appartiene a un gruppo di 4 oli che rappresentano lo stesso tema e che l'artista dipinse tra il 1983 e il 1984. Ma questo è l'unico esemplare non in mano a un museo. (Gli altri si trovano tra Oslo e Gothenburg). Mai offerto prima all'asta, questo dipinto ha una stima davvero sorprendente:  35 milioni di dollari. I commenti dei due esperti della casa d'aste: Emmanuel Di-Donna, Vice Chairman, Impressionist and Modern Art Worldwide and Head of Sotheby’s Evening Sales, New York, noted “This painting could not have come on to the auction market at a better time. International buyers have already witnessed the potential of a great Munch with Girls on the Bridge which Sotheby’s sold last May for over $30 million, and the November sale represents a unique opportunity for those collectors who are avidly seeking a masterpiece as powerful and emotionally charged as some of the greatest works by Bacon, Freud and Hirst that have been making headlines in recent auction seasons.” “Few paintings pack as hard a punch as Munch’s Vampire,” commented Simon Shaw, Senior Vice President and Head of Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern Art Department in New York. “Like The Scream, it distils extraordinarily intense feelings into a simple, unforgettable motif. The lovers, locked in their dark embrace, evoke love’s paradox as a source of tenderness and pain.”

io SI avevo fatto un commento, si sara' trasformato in polvere cosmica!?, Quel viso e'come una involuta resurrezione, avvince, ma gli occhi guardano in forma introspettiva, cosa cercheranno? Vorrei entrare in questo MISTERO.

Complimenti a Fontana! Non avrà bissato il record, ma è un ottimo risultato in questo momento di crisi nera.
Koons, Warhol, Richter e Polke praticamente a secco: credo che gli americani e i tedeschi abbiano esaurito i soldi...

Il prossimo weekend mi fiondo a Genova a vedere la mostra su Fontana...è sempre un emozione mettersi difronte alle sue opere.

Vediamo più tardi i risultati dei nostri bravi artisti italiani... per me, in alcuni casi molto molto sottovalutati rispetto ai colleghi americani, ecc...
